CIRCULAR TO STAFF AND STUDENTS
CLOSURE OF ALL UNIVERSITIES DURING THE ELECTION PERIOD
Senate at its Special Meeting held on Wednesday, 22 February, 2023 considered the directive from the National Universities Commission (NUC) that all academic activities in Nigerian Universities should be suspended. This is to enable staff and students participate in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Senate decided to suspend physical attendance at lectures between Wednesday, 22nd February, 2023 to Thursday, 14th March, 2023. During this period, online activities including teaching would not be affected.
Furthermore, Senate graciously extended the period of late registration for the First Semester of the 2021/2022 academic session till 14th March, 2023, after which the University’s portal will be closed. Any student who fails to take advantage of this window of opportunity will face the penalty of non- registration for one semester and eventual withdrawal from the University if such student fails to register for two consecutive semesters.
Upon resumption on Wednesday 15th March, 2023, administration of continuous assessment would immediately commence. Any student who has not completed his/her registration by paying the stipulated fees and charges will not be able to participate in the continuous assessment exercise.
Also, Management at its meeting held on Wednesday, 22nd February, 2023 directed that Members of staff should work from home. However, whenever the attention of any staff is needed for special assignment, such staff would be contacted. Those who provide essential services are exempted from this shut down order, as they are required to be at their duty posts.
Staff and students are expected to resume for full academic and administrative activities in the University on Wednesday, 15th March, 2023.
