2024/25 Matriculation: LASU absorbs new batch of 12590 students
Matriculation ceremony remains a significant ritual in the higher Institution as it authenticate full rights of studentship on an Individual admitted into the four walls of a University. The Long-awaited occasion took place Yesterday, 18th of February 2025 at the Buba Maruwa Auditorium, Lasu main campus, Ojo, Lagos State. It was indeed a God giving day as the sky was smiling in blue with a clement weather to get all funs without any discomfort from cloud appearance.
The Lagos State University had for the 2024/2025 academic session, matriculated another batch of new students for the full time programmes which, expectedly, will facilitate their award of first degrees of their dreams at the Nigeria’s most digitally inclined university. No fewer than 12590 strong academic pursuers were administered the Matriculation oath in response to the ever increasing subscription rate of admission seekers for the globally renowned Citadel.
The People’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ọlatunji-Bello, mni npom, who is giving LASU an enlightened and Transparent leadership felicitated the newly admitted students for sailing through the hurdles encountered during the UTME and screening exercises to be among the few who were chosen in the yearly race for Admission amongst 50000 candidates who applied for admission.
Presiding over Today’s occasion as her 4th Matriculation ceremony as the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor, She boldly announced that LASU has been recognized under her administration, the best university in West Africa according to UI Green metrics, best in the use of Technology (E-learning) and excellent in Digital transformation state university.
The Kind-hearted mother but stern administrator, while congratulating the 12590 freshmen admitted across 13 faculties of the University, warned against deviant behaviour, Indecent dressings, examination malpractice, hooliganism and cultism as well as other social vices in order to make their stay in the University productive and successful.
The 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University, stressed that her administration has zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence which birthed the establishment of the Centre for Response, Sexual Gender based violence (CRSGBV) and also enjoined the new intakes to strive for academic excellence in all activities engaged in.
The Acting Dean, Student Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan while acknowledging the fact that LASU is filled with both challenges and opportunities, urged the students to face each moment with courage, discipline and dedication. He further, instructed the students not to settle for mediocrity, push beyond limits and strive for excellence, noting that success is not served on a platter of gold but earned through Intentional effort, unwavering discipline and passion for Learning.
Speaking further, He advised the new Intakes to embrace a mindset of discovery, Question norms, challenge their respective Intellects and seek knowledge beyond textbooks. He implored them to be open to new perspectives, engage in meaningful conversations and participate in Intellectual Debates.
Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan painstakingly emphasised all the Do and Don’ts pointed out by the Vice Chancellor, informing them to be of good behaviour and eshew actions that can endanger their academic endeavours.
The Centre for Information and Public relations (CIPR) reports that the University registrar, Mr Fanu Emmanuel, administered the oath and Matriculation pledge on the students, while representatives from the different faculties signed the Matriculation register for the students.
The University’s main campus, Ojo, was filled with different people from All walks of life and from different geographical locations that came to make the auspicious occasion worth celebrating and memorial to the matriculating students.
The Director, JAMB Zonal office, Mr Shittu Buniyamin alongside the Registrar, Lagos State University of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, (LASUED) Mr Ope Akinfenwa, lent gravitas to the occasion.
