AAU Bans SUG over Protest of Hike in tuition fee

Management of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAU) had placed a ban on the existence of Students’ Union government (SUG) following the incessant protests on tuition fee Hike.
The University management, in a letter sent to the SUG President, stated that the Protest which held on 31st August and 1st September, 2023 manifested in illegal locking of the University main gate, The management team also added that the Protest clearly disrupted the Academic and Administrative Activities in the University and also created security tension.
In an Internal memorandum convened to the Student union President, dated 1st of September, 2023.
The Management team, averred that the University’s Student union, had completely flouted the provisions of section 19, subsections (h) and (i) of the rules and regulations enshrined in the student Information Handbook.
The Rule stated that ” without any form of ambiguity, the Organizers of Demonstration must ensure that there is no disruption or obstruction of Educational and other activities of the University including administration, lecture, Tutorial, and other related events.”
Consequent upon the above, The University management proclaimed the “student union” dissolved and stands Dissolved.
The Acting Dean of Students community, directed the executives to return all union properties in their possession to the security Division within 48 hours.
The Ag Dean, Further stated that students should go about their normal academic activities as all issues in contention will be resolved through Dialogue and other relevant mechanisms.
