Federal University of Lokoja Students Decry Increment in 2022/2023 Tuition fee

The Federal University of Lokoja as at Yesterday,12th of March,2023 announced an hike in tuition fee which was expected to take effect as from the beginning of 2022/2023 academic session.

The University management made this known to the Concerned Students via their Registration portal few days after its activation and a paper which incorporates the tuition fee schedule.

The New tuition fee increases from 47k and 55k respectively to #70,000 and #188,500 for Returning students and newly admitted students respectively.

Pursuant to the foregoing, Students of the Federal University of Lokoja (FULOKOJA) had decried the ambiguous increment of their school fee with a different of #23,000 and #133,500 respectively.

With the high cost of living and the dwindling economic crises that had beached Nigeria, Students of the varsity had languished on the Increment and cried tears of dropping out.

A Fresher of the Institution,Mayor Gold DC said: “Sincerely they really need to do something,This is far beyond my budget for the school”.

“I pray they reduce it because my parents are not happy at all” said Ireoluwa,A newly Admitted Student.

Abigael Oloruntoba;”God please do something,this money is too much for crying out loud”.

A student of the varsity with the Sobriquet”Sunshyn boi” lamented; I just hope the news of this school fees is a prank, because I don’t know when FULOKOJA became a private Institution”.

A renowned Student of the University,with the Sobriquet “Zico gold” lamented bitterly on behalf of the Students over the increment on tuition fee and urged the SUG to come to their aid. “Once the Students’ union Government fails to do something about this money Increase for freshmen,I got not to trust the ability of them over anything in School again till I am through there. 30% of students will fail to resume because not all fingers are equal. 20% of students will try to find it and go to school to find way to survive after leaving debt behind for their parents. 10% will pay without no side effects. 40% won’t get the payment at all when all fees amounted to 250k with house rent and acceptance fees. Some of us strive for this Education and the varsity announced 200k and above plan budget. It is well” he ended his speech.

Another student of the University who pleaded anonymity added; “I think FULOKOJA wan see protest,#188,500k excluding acceptance fee and accommodation fee, FULOKOJA fear God”.

“In poverty and other misfortunes of life,True Friends are a sure refuge,The young they keep out of a mischief to the old they are comfort aid in their weakness,and those in their prime of life they Incite to noble deeds, let’s train our minds to desire what the situation demands. All FULOKOJA needs now is protest” A Student agitated.

Meanwhile, Following the Increment of the Tuition fee,the Students’ Union Government of the Institution ably led by Comr. Agada Idoko Achiever (President Elect) had called for calm and normalcy to restore as he promised to meet the University management on the reduction of the Tuition fee.

This was made known to the Students via a press release signed and approved by the Director Of Information-Elect,Comr. Mary Bello dated 12th of March,2023.

As exclusively Inferred from the Press release,he Urged all students to pause the payment of Tuition fee till a favourable conclusion is arrived at by the University management staff.

The SUG president said he is optimistic that the University management will listen to their clamour and will address the issues in a manner that will be comfortable for the Students.

Strikingly,as well,the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students-Joint Campus Council (NANS-JCC) in Kogi state, Comrade Suleiman Muhammed has urged all fresh students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) to pause payments of their school fees, for now.

The Chairman, Comrade Muhammed, made this call in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrd Musa Idris on Saturday. According to him, the move is in response to the sudden increment of school fees, which has placed a heavy burden on the shoulders of students and their families.

The chairman assured FUL students, that the association would forever prioritize the welfare of the students, and as such, the association would be in talks with the school management to explore the possibility of a reduction in school fees.

He added that a round-table discussion would be scheduled with the school management to address the issue, and he called on all new/old students to remain calm and patient as the association would work towards a favorable resolution.
