The Nigerian Education Curriculum set to take a new look as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) abolished HND Computer science Programme in all Polytechnics in Nigeria. This is in view of the present reality as well as the ever-evolving technological advancement.
It therefore, birthed the Introduction of new and Emerging programmes that will prepare and equip our youth to be able to fit into the Fourth Industrial revolution that is technological driven.
This development was made known to the General populace via A memo signed and approved by the board Executive Secretary (Prof.Idris M.Bugaje).
According to the Memo,the following programmes will serve In lieu of the HND Computer science programme.
- HND Artificial Intelligence Technology.
- HND Cyber security Technology.
- HND Computer Networks and cloud Computing Technology.
- HND Software and web development.
It also added that the Newly introduced programmes will commence in the 2023/24 academic session while the HND Computer science will be fully abolished in 2024/25 academic session.
“Consequently, Federal Polytechnics and State Polytechnics will be required to contribute the sum of #500,000 and #300,000 respectively towards the development of the curricular. The Proposed programmes when developed will commence in the 2023/2024 academic session while the HND Computer science is expected to phase out by 2024/2025 academic session.” The Memo partly reads.
